1959-1961 CADILLAC BOOSTER CHANGEOVER

Original Booster with Single Master   Dual Diaphragm Dual Master Cylinder Replacement

1.      Remove vacuum hose from booster. Remove brake line from master cylinder. Make sure you have a container the brake fluid can drain in. Dot 3 & 4 brake fluid will damage paint.

2.      Remove pin from brake pedal that connects to push rod of the power brake booster.

3.      Remove four mounting nuts on booster under dash and remove booster.

4.      Make sure firewall area is clean and free from any debris and install new booster combo making sure the pedal rod is in the correct side of the brake pedal. Be careful when installing booster through hole in firewall there is a plastic hub under the rubber boot and it is very fragile. If hub is broken warranty is void.

5.      Install pin into booster pushrod and brake pedal and secure pin. Install four mounting nuts making sure the booster is mounted flush against the firewall.

6.      Since your original brake system is a single system you must split your brake system since you are changing from drum brakes to disc front and rear drum brakes. In order to properly do this you must utilize a proportioning valve.  The simplest way to accomplish this is to use your original line that ran to your master cylinder is to plump the line to the front outlet for the proportioning valve. Then down on the frame you will find a brake tee that connects your front and rear brake lines. Remove the line from the tee that runs to your rear brakes and plug the tee with a hydraulic line plug. Place a union on the rear brake line and run an extension brake line up to the rear output of the proportioning valve. Install new vacuum hose to booster. It is necessary to have 18” of vacuum for system to work properly. Bleed and test systems for leaks.

Remember you’re responsible for the proper operation, installation, and safety of this vehicle so make sure a qualified technician has thoroughly inspected your vehicle and brake system before you drive your vehicle.
