This pump uses a more modern seal set up like the later V-8 Flat Head pumps through 1948. The earlier pumps used a compression style packing that was adjusted with a gland nut. The later pump like this one can be used on earlier cars that had the gland nut packing.
Depending upon the year, some pumps used one of two styles “Connectors” to drive the pump. There is a mechanical connection between the back of the generator driving a shaft that in turn is connected to the water pump. Both connectors fit this pump, so you can use it on earlier cars, but the look won’t be correct as the earlier cars had a gland packing nut. If any questions let me know.
